Misioneros Columbanos

From The Director

Welcome to the website for the Missionary Society of St. Columban!

The Missionary Society of St. Columban is comprised of more than 600 Catholic priests, seminarians, Sisters and lay missionaries who proclaim and witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ.

The Society seeks to establish the Catholic Church where the Gospel has not been preached, help local churches evangelize their laity, promote dialogue with other faiths, and foster among all baptized people an awareness of their missionary responsibility.

The Columban Society was founded in 1918 to evangelize the Chinese people. But that was just the beginning. Over the years, our call to serve our Lord and Church has expanded. Today, we are a multicultural community of Catholic missionaries active in the mission countries of Japan, Korea, Peru, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Pakistan, Chile, Fiji and Taiwan.

Our service has been made possible through the generosity and loyalty of our friends in the United States and other countries. It is your prayers and financial support that give us the resolve and resources needed for our projects that help the poorest of our brothers and sisters while spreading the salvation found in God's Word.

We continue to be dedicated to answering Jesus Christ's great commission: "Go and make disciples of all nations." We do this by teaching the Gospel while respecting the cultural traditions of the people to whom we minister.

Columbans proclaim the Gospel; we pray in private and in public liturgies. We are engaged in inter-religious dialogue and work toward reconciliation among different peoples. And since Columbans are interested in the whole person, we also are involved in projects to improve people's social, economic and educational well-being with special attention to our duty to care for the planet's natural resources.

We invite you to join us Columbans as we live out the vocation of the Church. We invite you to join us in whichever way is right for you.
